Primitive bacterial skin inflammations like pyoderma of varying severity and extent, including ecthyma, folliculitis, sycosis, boils, microbial eczema also in secondarily infected forms such as dermatitis and impetiginous eczema, stasis ulcers, traumatic injuries, burns and infected abrasions. Other skin conditions that benefit from the application of Gentamicin are acne and pustular psoriasis, intertriginous forms and perionyxis of bacterial origin.
Gentamicin is ineffective in the treatment of fungal forms since gentamicin is not effective on certain strains of fungi. However, the drug has useful application in bacterial superinfections of fungal and viral infections.
Particular effectiveness has been demonstrated using the preparation in the treatment of burns of various degree and extent in which the denuded skin, brought about by the exceptional intensity of the thermal insult, promotes the development of particularly virulent bacteria.
